“The position of Coroner is generally one that is not well understood by the community. One doesn’t appreciate the importance of the Coroner unless tragic circumstances intervene. This is a non-partisan position which requires an individual with appropriate training, experience, and proven leadership.”
— Michael J. Dobersen, M.D., Ph.D.
I have successfully served as the Arapahoe County Coroner and Medical Examiner for 17 years, and I remain dedicated to continuing to serve in this role. I ask for your support so my highly trained staff and I may persevere in our dedicated service to the community.
I am proud of our many achievements since taking office. We have grown into a state-of-the-art forensic facility with the latest technology to assist in our investigations. We have established rapport with community leaders, and excellent working relationships with local law enforcement, the legal community, and the medical community. We have increased our efficiency to offer high levels of service while maintaining our costs.

A highly respected physician who has been requested to consult on high profile cases.
A skilled Coroner/Medical Examiner who was called to assist after the World Trade Center terrorist attack and Hurricane Katrina.
A clinical associate professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine who teaches and publishes on the latest techniques in the forensic sciences.
A dedicated community member and family man.
A forensic pathologist who serves as coroner, thus saving the county significant funds. A coroner who is not able to do autopsies must hire a forensic pathologist, thus increasing costs to the county.
