EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Physician with board certification in Forensic Pathology (specialty of medicine dealing with death investigation and determination of cause of death). This entailed 4 years of medical school, 4 years residency and 2 years of fellowship training.
- Seventeen years service as Arapahoe County Coroner/Medical Examiner
LEADERSHIP:
- Dr. Dobersen believes that the primary responsibility of the Coroner is to serve as the family physician to the bereaved. He recognizes that each case he handles represents the death of a person whose absence is grieved by relatives and friends. To these individuals he and his staff dedicate their best efforts.
- Under the direction of Dr. Dobersen, the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office has grown into a “state of the art” forensic facility, with the newest technology used to assist in death investigation. He has initiated strong working relationships with the local law enforcement jurisdictions, the legal community and the medical community.
- While he was President of the Colorado Coroner’s Association, he led a successful initiative for state-wide coroner training and certification. He was appointed by the Governor to the Colorado Coroner’s Standards and Training Board, and is a lecturer for the New Coroner Institute.
- He provided forensic assistance in the aftermath of the World Trade Center terrorist attack and Hurricane Katrina.
- He is a member of the Governor’s Emergency Expert Epidemiologic Response Team to help deal with epidemics and mass disasters.
- He is a member of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s Cold Case Review Team which applies new technology to investigate unsolved crimes.
- He is a Clinical Associate Professor, Pathology Department, at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and provides training to their medical students and residents.
- He is also a National Spokesperson for the College of American Pathologists.
